Title |
Iron Age harness fitting, L-shaped |
||
Description |
English: Iron Age cast copper alloy harness fitting. L-shaped rectangular-sectioned bar with a circular loop at either end. Each loop has a bi-lobed collar with lobes decorated with a central groove. The long arm has transverse hammer marks on one wider side. Some wear on the inside of the outer edges of the loops - this seems to be only on the inside of the loops on the inside of the L-shape; the wear appears to be from a narrow strap - width c.3mm. Fine light brown-green patina, one scratch reveals yellow-gold metal. Length along long arm 47.5mm, length along short arm 32.5mm, width across loops 16.0mm (short arm) & 16.2mm (long arm), internal diameter of loops 8.0mm (short arm) & 7.1mm (long arm), thickness of arms 7.8mm (short arm) & 8.0mm (long arm), width of arms 5.3mm (short arm) & 4.9mm (long arm), thickness across mouldings on arms 10.3mm (short arm) & 9.3mm (long arm), thickness across loops 5.9mm (short arm) & 5.9mm (long arm), weight 21.24. |
