Iron Age coin: gold stater struck for Dubovellaunos of the Eastern Region
Description
English: A gold stater struck for Dubnovellaunos of the Eastern Region, dating c. 20 BC- AD 10. Rudd's 'Dubnovellaunos Branch' type. Obverse: single wreath with pellet-in-annulet terminals, two back-to-back hollow crescents at centre, pellet-in-annulet each side. Reverse: horse prancing left, branch below, pellet-in-ring above horse's back, pellet between horse's head and forelegs, double pellet-in-annulet below branch. 'DVNOVALLAVNOS' (or garbled rendition thereof) above horse, inscription struck mostly off flan. See ABC no. 2392.
