Title |
Iron Age bridal bit |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete, cast copper-alloy bridle bit dating to the Iron Age (800BC - AD42).
The bit is likely the central link of a three-link bridle bit (such as: SF4715, BH-9EDAF7) and is comprised of a central, circumventing moulding with bevelled edges, which project into an integral ovoid loop on either side of the moulding. The loops are planoconvex in section and have uniform wear marks on their outer upper edges (10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions) that perforate the loops. Similar loop wear patterns can be seen on: SUSS-17F2CC, NCL-EEDDB1, SUSS-4227E2, WMID-028CF4. The bit has a green patina. Maximum dimensions = length: 63.8mm, width: 20mm. Internal diameter of loops: 20.4 x 18.7mm, thickness of loop: 5.6mm Weight: 39.59g |
