Title
Iron Age La Tene I brooch
Description
English: An incomplete Iron Age La Tene I type brooch dating to the period c.400-200 BC.

The head consists of an integrally cast circular-sectioned spring with two loops remaining and ending in an old break. The pin is missing. The circular-sectioned bow arches steeply from the head, narrowing gradually along its length before terminating at an enlarged collar with a narrower collar above and below. A short piece of pointed-oval sectioned bow extends beneath, terminating at an old worn break.

None of the surfaces are decorated but the brooch is generally very worn and has several areas of pitting across the face of the bow. Mottled mid to dark-green and brown patination occur across the surfaces.

The brooch measures 36.2mm long, 5.8mm in diameter at the top of the bow, 7mm in diameter at the collar and 3.2mm wide and 2.2mm thick at the broken terminal. It weighs 6.52 grams.
