Title |
Iron Age Jar Rim |
||
Description |
English: A rim sherd probably originating from a jar type container of Iron Age date. The fabric is very coarse, with large inclusions of a flint temper, but the inner face of the sherd appears to have been burnished as it feels and looks shined. The outer face is severely abraded and the inner face has also suffered. Where the abrasion has occurred, one can see past the black outer oxidised finish to the light brown core. The curvature of the sherd suggests that the vessel would have had an original diameter of c. 100mm. |
