Iron Age Brooch
Description
English: Late Iron Age copper alloy Alesia brooch, terminal knob missing. Mackreth Alesia Group 1:c2. Rolled-under head contains a corroded iron axis bar, copper alloy pin with point contained within a sub-triangular catchplate. The head has stamped decoration comprising two ring-and-dots with deep broad central dot, knurled transverse rib. Decoration and treatment of the head and sub-triangular-sectioned bow is very close to Mackreth 2011, 131, pl. 89 no. 8553. Length 43.5mm. Width of head 13.5mm. c.20 - c.43 AD.
