Title |
Iron Age : Brooch |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete copper alloy La Téne I type brooch, dating from circa 4th – 3rd century BC.
The spring and head of the brooch are missing and the break is very worn. The bow is arched and tapers outwards from the head and then inwards from the swollen centre. The bow has a circular cross-section. Running down the front spine of the bow some moulded decoration is still evident. The decoration seems to be two parallel lines, bordering a row of dots. The bow then continued into the foot. The foot is bent around on itself and has been looped up under the main bow. The catchplate can still be seen extending out from the side of the foot, at the rear of the object. The terminal of the foot ends with a circular element, which resembles an ear scoop. Two collars sit beneath this. The pin the missing. The metal is pitted and is a dark greenish-brown colour. This brooch is similar to examples in Hattatt, 2000, p288, fig: 147 and Hattatt, 1985, p11, Fig: 3. |
