Description
English: Inverinate House Extract from this website: http://www.ambaile.org.uk/en/item/item_photograph.jsp?item_id=11547

"Inverinate House, by Carruthers, Ballantyne & Taylor, on the shores of Loch Duich, was built for Capt Gerald Portman, in 1929. It replaced an 1880 rebuild, after a fire in 1864. One previous owner was Sir Alexander Matheson, who was Member of Parliament for the area from 1849 to 1868. He made his fortune trading in China and bought land and property in Lochalsh on his return. The original house on the site was built in 1801 for Kenneth MacKenzie

Sir Alexander's uncle, Sir James Matheson, was one of the founders of the international trading company Jardine Matheson"

In the 1990s it was proposed to demolish the house but it appears now to have been reprieved. See http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/jan/15/highlands-dubai-sheikh-maktoum
