These bandages are retained for about ten days at the end ofwhich time they are divided laterally, so that they can be utilizedlater as anterior and posterior splints. They are removed and pas-sive movements and massage of the fingers, wrist and elbow in-stituted. The limb is then replaced in the plaster of Paris bandages.Massage and passive movements should be given every day untilmovements of the fingers, wrist and elbow are normal and free frompain. This is usually about three weeks after the injury had beensustained. There are two important points to remember when treating frac-tures of both bones of the forearm, namely: 1. Ununited fractures of the radius are not uncommon, un-doubtedly the result of improper fixation of the elbow, pronationand supination being insufficiently guarded against.
