erebellar peduncles to the cerebral cortex, those in each peduncle passing to both sides (the greater numbercrossing). From the superior cerebellar peduncles the fibers firstpass to the red nuclei in the crura cerebri and from thence upwardthrough the anterior portion of the internal capsule to end in the 60 INTERSTATE MEDICAL JOURNAL posterior portion of the second temporal convolutions (vertigocenters). It is through this tract that stimuli from the static laby-rinth reach the cerebral cortex and cause vertigo. The tract forpast-pointing starts in the prerolandic centers and passes downwardthrough the posterior portion of the internal capsule-to the pons.In the pons certain of these fibers cross to the dentate nucleus of theopposite side, whence they pass to the cerebellar cortical centers. From these centers fibers pass back to the dentate nucleus and fromthere to the pons, then down on the same side to join the crossedpyramidal fibers. The ramus vestibularis is here seen in its entirety (1).The chief mass of fibers is directed toward the small cell triangular vestib-ular nucleus (2), while a second part curves toward the large cells ofDeiters nucleus (3). Some of the fibers of the vestibular, together withfibers from Deiters nucleus, take the dorsal course of the restiforme fibers to the tlfree cerebellar nuclei. A bit of the facial nucleus is seen, the libersof which surround the nucleus of the abducens (6), after which they formthe ascending arm of the facial. The otherfibers from the cerebral cortex accompanying the accuracy tractpass down through the pons of the same side to decussate in themedulla and pass to the brachial plexus, etc. This is the pyramidaltract proper.
