losed at operation. I attempted to extirpate the cyst, with a fatalresult, for the child died suddenly a few hours after the operation— *I feel confident that the adherence by C. H. Frazier to a unilateral methodof approach to cerebellar tumors, advocated likewise by Krause, is the occa-sion for his and Dr. Spillers repeated statement that these are the least satis-factory of all brain tumors for operation. It may necessitate, as Dr. Frazierhas explained, the partial removal of the cerebellar hemisphere to gain ac-cess to the lateral recess. The matter has been reviewed by P. Lecene inthe Journal de Chirurgie, 1909, Vol. ii., p. 36. 612 (NTERSTATE MEDICAL JOURNAL possibly a thymus death, as we found the characteristic glandular en-largements at autopsy. Had I satisfied myself with a simple aspirationor partial removal of the cyst-wall in all probability we would havesaved the child. The brain shows very well the large cystic cavity andthe great dilatation of the ventricles (Fig. 5).

The first of the patients presented was seen by one of mycolleagues about a year ago. The history and examination revealednothing except the vomiting and headaches and the condition wasnaturally supposed to be one of simple gastric disturbance and was sotreated for a time. The second patient, as I have said, was thought fora long time to be the subject of labyrinthine disease, and other illustra-tions might be given. A particularly large number of these patients haveat one time or another been treated for hysteria. The mistaken diagnoses really make a professionally disconcertingrecord. A frequent result of the delay is blindness.
