A movable kidney may be existant for years and cause no complaint KOLIPINSKI: MOVABLE KIDNEY 797 or disturbance in health or else the symptoms it produces are so clearlystated by the patient that the observer is directly guided to verify hisassumption. The most common subjective symptom is the feeling of itspresence produced by the fallen kidney in its adventitious place andwith tliis an abdominal pain over the affected organ on standing, or inwalking. It is not tender unless pathologiclaly altered or a firmer pres-sure is applied. Firm bimanual pressure may cause immediate nausea.Dyspeptic disturbances may occur but are not acutely marked. They areflatulence, epigastric oppression, with cardiac palpitation, attacks ofvomiting, sense of uneasiness after eating, or more or less cardialgia.True migraine may be caused by movable kidney.

Many of neuropathictendency, aggravated by emaciation, cannot bear the burden of the knowl-edge that they possess a dislocated, a movable, even a floating kidney.This thought is fear and awe inspiring. A gentle intimation that anoperation is or very soon will be necessary throws them into a panic ofterror or the apathy of indifference. Agents like these result in thedevelopment of severe hysteria, neurasthenia or melancholia. Acute hydronephrosis may occur in movable and in floating kidney,from torsion of the ureter and that similar acute paroxysm with severepain, vomiting and appearances of shock or collapse called Dietls crisisand thought to be due to torsion of the renal vein. The indication in the treatment of movable kidney is to restore the 798 INTERSTATE MEDICAL JOURNAL organ to its proper site and
