Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Interior of St Botolph's Church, Lullingstone. The estate at Lullingstone dates back to Domesday. The present Manor House and Gatehouse were built in 1497 and have been home to the same family ever since. Both Henry VIIIth and Queen Anne were regular visitors. The parish church of St Botolph is within the grounds. Although the church looks Norman in shape the earliest evidence is from the early 14th century. The north chapel dates from the early 16th century. From the 18th century is the south porch, the roofs and the bell turret. The church was "repaired and beautified" by Percyvall Hart who died in 1738 and was a great admirer of Queen Anne. He was responsible for the plaster ceilings, the plaster window surrounds, the chancel arch, the pulpit, the benches and the rood screen.
