Description |
English: Seattle City Light's first Cedar Falls dam and power generating plant was completed on the Cedar River in 1905. The city's demand for electricity soon outpaced the available supply, and a new dam and generating plant were completed in 1914.
This 1915 photo by Curtis & Miller shows the interior of the new Cedar Falls generating plant. Rows of transformers receive electricity from the dam's generators and regulate the voltage so it can be transmitted over power lines to the city of Seattle. The large white splashes in the right hand side of the image were caused by bright daylight shining in through the windows.
