DescriptionInterior of Fort Smith Birney streetcar 224.jpg | Interior view of Fort Smith streetcar No. 224, a "Birney Safety Car" built in 1926 and listed (since 1994) on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). In this photo, car 224 has just reached the end of the line, which at that time was at the southern edge of Garrison Avenue (in the background), on private right-of-way between (and parallel to) 3rd Street and 4th Street. This terminus opened in August 1996, but in November 2002 the line was extended west, starting with a curve just before this location, turning this location into a short branch that is normally unused. |
