English: We always go by bus to Porvoo, as it isn't served by rail, except it sort of is: on selected dates in the summer the Finnish Railway Museum operates a train of historic railcars from Helsinki to Porvoo.
This is one of the driving positions (unused today). Each railcar has a set of controls and I'm assuming the panel on the left is a cover for the engine. That could get a bit warm, even if it is nice in the winter. The hardware in general is interesting, consisting of three powered railcars plus a trailer all from the 1950s and built under licence in the Valmet factory in Finland. They're based on Swedish railcars, and for power use an engine based on a Scania unit, being a normally aspirated 8.1 litre straight eight producing 180hp. |
