Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Interior at Dewstow Gardens. This old building, now roofed, was once a hot-house or green-house (I think), built in the late 1890's on behalf of the new owner, a Henry Oakley, a wealthy bachelor and recluse who wanted gardens that were 'different'. He had a family firm of landscape architects, James Pulham & Sons, design and build amazing subterranean grottoes, caves and walkways, pools and lakes and all connected by walkways and all the rocks and caves made by hand from cement but looking real. The pavement 'slabs' are just the tip of the iceberg here. Today Swallows nest in this building too.
