Description : Cet élégant édifice fut achevé en 1920 pour loger le Mechanics' Institute of Montreal, la plus ancienne bibliothèque de prêt payant au pays. Créé en 1828, cet institut offrait aux ouvriers et plus tard aux ouvrières une formation technique et des « connaissances utiles ». Le bâtiment reflète les idéaux et la mission de l'organisme par ses médaillons sculptés illustrant les arts mécaniques, sa bibliothèque et ses salles de lecture parées de chêne et de marbre, enfin ses salles de conférences, de cours et d'expositions.
