Description
English: The ScanEagle is a low-level reconnaissance UAV which first flew in 2002. It was developed from the SeaScan, a civilian UAV designed to locate schools of Tuna for commercial fishing.

The ScanEagle has been given the military designation MQ-27 and entered US Navy service in 2005. It is now operated by 24 other nations including Iran, who have built an unlicensed copy called the ‘Yasir’. This non-military ScanEagle was used for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) demonstrations connected with the integration of unmanned aircraft into US national airspace. It was donated to the Smithsonian Institute in 2016 and seen on display in the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center as part of the National Air and Space Museum.
