Description 330-PSA-71-63: Pershing Braves A Snow Storm. This scene is inside the Arctic Circle at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, near Fairbanks, where the U.S. Army’s Pershing ballistic missile system has undergone extensive environmental tests. The tests were conducted by personnel of the U.S. Army and the Martin Co., who have been with Pershing in Alaska since late November. Tests included countdowns, simulated launches, road marches and resupply exercises. The Pershing Project Office at the Army Missile Command is managing the system’s development. Photograph released March 28, 1963. (2015/10/13).
