The colour is very dark brown,with a coating of yellow down on the thorax, and a black bandacross the base of the abdomen. WE now take an example of the typical genus, Tdbwrwhilaris, an East Indian insect. The general colour is reddish brown. Thisremarkable arrangementof the facets is found inseveral other insects. There is a genus ofTabanidse called Acantho-mera, or thorn-legged,because a sharp spikeprojects from the end ofthe thigh.
