English: Insription "in memoriam uxorum optimarum v.Mendelssohn-Bartholdy v.Hardt" in the quire of the Ascension Church on Mount Olives in Jerusalem. The inscriptions refer to the beneficial ladies (uxorum optimarum) Marie von Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1855-1906), née Warschauer, great-granddaughter of Moses Mendelssohn and widow of Ernst v. M.-B. (1846-1909) and Elise von Hardt, née Schemmmann, widow of Richard v. H. (1824-1898). The late husbands of them Ernst von Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Richard von Hardt had been bankers and members of the Evangelischer Kirchenbauverein (Protestant Chuch Construction Association, a booster club collecting money to subsidise church constructions). Since Auguste Victoria was the patroness of this association this might have brought about that the ladies granted their aid to subsidise the costly construction of the Ascension Church.
