English: VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Petty Officer 3rd Class David L. Scribellito stands next to his award winning innovation at the Coast Guard Innovation Expo at the Virginia Beach Conference Center Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008. Scribellito designed a way to package the ships plugging and patching kit so it is logical, easy to use, carry, hang and store. Normally the kits on Coast Guard ships are just seabags filled with all the gear.
He was one of five recipients of the Capt. Niels P. Thompson Innovation Awards given in 2008. Scribellito is stationed on the Coast Guard Cutter Neah Bay, a 140-foot Ice Breaking Tug, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was an E-3 when he designed the pack on the Neah Bay. The ship is now working on similar designs for other kits onboard. (U.S. Coast Guard photo/PA2 Andrew Kendrick) |
