Jerusalem Quartet Nederlands: Jeugdig enthousiasme behoort tot de grootste troeven van het Jerusalem Quartet. Hun subliem gevoel voor de fijnste dynamische schakeringen, daarvoor zit ook u op het puntje van uw stoel. Landgenoot, pianist en dirigent Daniel Barenboim is al jaren een trouwe fan. Hij gaf zelfs de cello van zijn overleden echtgenote Jacqueline du Pré - de beroemde 'Sergio Peresson' - aan cellist Kyril Zlotnikov in bruikleen. De kwaliteiten van de cello komen optimaal tot hun recht in het Strijkkwartet in D, KV575 van Mozart. Hoewel dit werk bij het grote publiek bekendstaat als het 'Pruisische' kwartet, wordt het soms ook wel als het 'cellokwartet' bestempeld. De cello speelt immers een bijna solistische rol. Ook de Joodse componist Mark Kopytman schrijft virtuoze cellopartijen. Niet verwonderlijk: de muziek van Kopytman vindt zijn inspiratie in de joodse, Oost-Europese volksmuziek, met haar typisch lange, melancholische melodieën. Geen waardiger vervanger van de menselijke stem dan de cello! Français : L'enthousiasme juvénile compte parmi les plus grands atouts du Jerusalem Quartet. Leur sens sublime des variations dynamiques les plus subtiles, voilà ce qui nous plonge tous dans le ravissement. Leur compatriote, le pianiste et chef d'orchestre Daniel Barenboim est depuis des années un fidèle admirateur. Il céda même en prêt le violoncelle de son épouse décédée Jacqueline du Pré - le célèbre 'Sergio Peresson' - au violoncelliste Kyril Zlotnikov. Dans le Quatuor à cordes en ré majeur KV575 de Mozart, les qualités du violoncelle peuvent magnifiquement être exploitées. Bien qu'auprès du grand public, cette œuvre soit connue comme le quatuor 'Prussien', il est parfois baptisé 'quatuor à violoncelle'. En effet, le violoncelle y joue un rôle prépondérant. Le compositeur juif Mark Kopytman compose lui aussi des partitions virtuoses pour violoncelle. Pas étonnant: la musique de Kopytman trouve son inspiration dans la musique populaire juive et de l'Europe orientale, avec ses typiques longues mélodies mélancoliques. It comes as no surprise then that Kopytman's music is inspired by Jewish, Eastern-European folk music, with its typically slow, melancholic melodies.
