Staffordville (Ocean co.), a post village 5>/ milesn.n.e. of Tuckerton, with a good local trade, a ship-ping trade in oysters, etc., and largely interested inthe oyster beds and fisheries of Barnegat Bay. Popu-lation, 150. Stanhope (Sussex and Morris cos.), a post villageon both sides of the Musconetcong River and theMorris Canal, and on the Morris and Essex Railroad,3 miles e. of Waterloo Station ; it has extensive ironworks, a large local trade, a large and valuable tradein the ores and the manufactured and agriculturalproducts of a large district, and a population ofnearly 1000. The village originated in Sussex, but,since the construction of the railroad along the south-ern shore of the river, it has crossed into Morris co.,where the larger portion of the population resides.
