opi woman, on her marriage, is provided by her malerelatives with certain white garments, consisting of two purewhite robes of cotton and a broad white cotton belt with longknitted fringes. After marriage the Hopi woman releases her hair from thegreat whorls worn as a maiden, and fashions it into two rolls,one on each side of the head, which she wraps with many turnsof a long string made of her own hair. About the neck oneusually finds many strands of shell or turquoise beads, or anecklace of silver, while in her ears she wears squarish blocksof wood, with a well-made turquoise mosaic. Of the former daily cos-tume of the men not muchremains, the simple cottonloin-cloth serving every re-quirement through the greaterpart of the year. The men,as a rule, wear moccasins upontheir feet, which they stain redor black, or which they colorto meet the requirements ofsome special ceremony. Onlya few specimens of the old,beautifully made, wovenshirts of blue cotton, whichthe Hopi men formerly wore
