Summary
[edit]DescriptionIndian Halibut Fishers on Neah Bay, Washington (c. 1900).jpg |
English: Original caption: "Indian Halibut Fishers on Neah Bay, Washington." Given the location, I presume these are Makah people. |
Date | Published 1907; picture must be older; accompanying text refers to "S.E. Morse (sic) of Port Angeles, Washington to whom the present [1907] is indebted for many of the striking and valuable Indian pictures of the Western Washington Indians. The picture is through the courtesy of C.E. Fulmer, of Port Angeles, the present owner of the Morse collection of pictures." |
Source | The Coast magazine, May 1907, Volume XI, Number 5, p. 177, accessed on Google Books. |
Author | Listed as "S.E. Morse of Port Angeles, Washington", but inscription on photo looks like probably "S.G. Morse". Since there is apparently a book called Portrait in Time: Photographs of the Makah by Samuel G. Morse, 1897-1903,, that is presumably the author (and date). Samuel G. Morse was an Indian Agent with Neah Bay in his jurisdiction. |
