Buddha Shakyamuni with Adorant |

Description |
English: This small sculpture was commissioned by a man named Pingalayana, who is depicted on the base. It shows Shakyamuni on the night of his enlightenment, when he touched the ground and asked the earth to recognize that he had rid his mind of all temptations. Many such images were produced in the regions near Bodhgaya, the site of the Buddha's enlightenment. The remainder of the text, concerning the origin of mental phenomena, is sometimes called the "Buddhist creed." |
