DescriptionIndia auto-rickshaw tuk tuk adapted for logistics July 2007.jpg |
An auto-rickshaw modified for intra-city logistics. These vehicles are unwieldy, clumsy, and grossly under powered. The large trailer flatbed also tempts owners to overload the already under powered vehicle which is already struggling with its puny 200cc motorcycle engine. They still have most of the maneuverability of a three wheeler, so sudden sharp turns by the driver (which most of these tuk tuk drivers tend to do) tends to have the trailer jutting out dangerously, catching unwary cyclists or pedestrians. They were quite a hindrance in Pune (Poona)'s already slow moving and chaotic traffic with some steeply graded streets only making things worse. These have been discontinued. |
