| Description |
This fruit seller was a real character, demanding we take his picture in various poses, here with one of his apples. We found it unexpected how keen everyone in the market was to have their picture taken. We came in planning to take photos of all the fruits and vegetables and expected to be in the way, but could not go 10 feet without being called over by every other seller, labourer or group asking for us to shoot them next. The sellers were very proud of their meticulously stacked stalls and many of the labourers, many heralding from distant villages and Chennai slum areas, seemed to find the camera a fun novelty and diversion, hamming it up or standing there looking cool. We really did not expect such reception and eagerness. |
