Title
Incomplete silver probable Anglo-Saxon cosmetic implement
Description
English: Incomplete silver probable Anglo-Saxon cosmetic implement, the integral suspension loop is now incomplete due to old breaks.

The loop is set at right angles to the plane of the implement, and is flat. The implement itself consists of a shaft, which begins with an oval section and then at just over half of its length is flattened to form a wider part that tapers to a point.

At the point where the shaft is flattened it is also bent, there is a crack across the shaft at this point and it therefore seems most likely that the bend is a result of distortion and damage rather than an original feature of the implement.

Discussion: Although no exact parallel could be found for this object there are many simple Anglo-Saxon cosmetic implements such as picks and ear scoops which are similar to it (MacGregor and Bolick 1993, 216-219) and it therefore seems most likely to be a variation on one of these.

Dimensions: 99.75mm in length, 4.71mm in width across the suspension loop, 2.34mm in width across the oval sectioned part of the shaft and 3.82mm in width across the flattened wider part of the shaft.
