Title
Incomplete cast copper alloy buckle pin of Medieval date, probably fourteenth century (AD 1350 – AD 1400). Drawing: Frank Basford.
Description
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy buckle pin of Medieval date, probably fourteenth century (AD 1350 – AD 1400). Length 54mm, width 4.8mm and maximum thickness 7.0mm. Weight 8.28g.

The pin is roughly the same width throughout its length and it is sub-square in cross-section. As viewed from the side, the shaft tapers from the loop towards the tip. The tip of the pin is slightly splayed (as viewed from above) and is undercut. On the top of the pin, at the junction between the loop and the shaft, there is a raised moulding which is the same width as the shaft and is 11mm in length. There are five indistinct transverse grooves on the upper surface of the moulding. The loop does not fully enclose and has an old abraded break. Consequently, there is a space between the end of the loop and the underside of the shaft. The piece is worn, is in good condition and has a mid-green to dark green patina.
