Description |
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy barrel padlock of Medieval date (AD 1200 - AD 1500). Length 46mm, maximum width of barrel 10.5mm. Weight 13.35g. The barrel has five longitudinal facets, the two forming the sides are wider than the other three and bear decoration in the form of vertical grooves. An unperforated arm above the closed end is sub-rectangular when viewed from the side. The open end is circular in profile. Part of the barrel is cutaway so that the inside is entirely visible About 8mm from the open end, within the barrel is the remains of a central septum. The piece has a dark green patina and also corrosion deposits. |
