| Description |
English: Incoming tide, Tollesbury The seawall on the right marks the edge of the Tollesbury inundation caused by managed retreat in the 1990s. Near the dead tree is marked on some maps as 'Red Hill'. 'Hill' is relative term i nthis ancient estuarine landscape and in this case is probably so named because of the red colour of the soil, often an indication of Romano-British or Medieval saltworking marking where the crude clay dishes used in the process have been discarded and broken down. |
