Summary

[edit]
Description playing around with my new camera at the Cloisters pond...there was no shortage of ducks! I didn't think this was a mallard--note the lack of a white neck ring, and it was a much bigger duck than all the others. Although my capture doesn't show the bill well, it was much more spoon-like than the other ducks. What gave me pause on the ID was the curled back tail feathers which I believe is a mallard trait...so, a combination of mallard and northern shoveler, perhaps.
