Text Appearing Before Image:
l contented that its gay coat should besuch a good protection, it wriggled itself along farther and beganto nibble a fresh leaf. A few days later the caterpillar, whose appetite had failed, begun to feel very strangely. I feel as if I should like to hide and sleep, it thought. I must be ill—I am so 0 you beauty ! said a voice. You look as if you had tinyred and yellow and blue beads sewed on your back. I wonderwhether Aunt Helen will not tell me a story about you. Crawlalong here and get on this stick—thats right—I wont hurt you. The caterpillar clung to the stick, and the little boy startedto get down from the tree into which he had climbed just forfun. But getting down was not as easy as climbing up hadbeen, and the little boy had to leave the caterpillar on the treeafter all. Ill ask Aunt Helen to come, he said to himself. ThenI can climb and get the caterpillar and reach it down to her.So saying he ran off to the house. Yes, said the caterpillar, on finding itself alone again
Text Appearing After Image:
319 320 IN THE CHILDS WORLD. I think I had better hide. And it did. It crawled off a littleway from where the boy had left it, and began to spin imme-diately. By the time the little boy had reached the house and hadfound Aunt Helen, and she had finished some work which shecould not leave, and they had both reached the tree at the endof the garden, the caterpillar had wound a mesh of silk aboutitself and could no longer be seen. The little boy was greatlypuzzled as he looked in vain for the green caterpillar. It was such a big fellow, auntie—as big as your thumb. Ithought it would be too clumsy to get far away. I wish I couldfind it. I never saw such a pretty caterpillar—such a perfectbeauty! I know where it is, said Aunt Helen. I see a cocoon upthere, and I am sure your caterpillar must be in it. Just breakthat twig off gently—that one which has something fastened toit—and reach it down to me. This is part of the story, sheadded, with a smile, as she saw how puzzled the little
