Summary

[edit]
Description
English: In its heyday this quarry employed 200 men The Moel Fferna mine was opened in the early 1870s. The rich horizontal vein provided excellent slate slab. This was used for making vats, billiard tables, tombstones etc. It structure however meant that it was of little value for the production of roofing slates. Soon, it was producing about 6000 tons per annum of slate slab and providing work for some 200 men. The quarry remained in production until the early 1960s when it was forced to close because of the increasing difficulty of attracting workers.
