Summary
[edit]DescriptionIn-situ hybridisation on chicken embryo.jpg |
English: In this picture we can see a chicken embryo that is been used for an in situ hybridization experiment. What we see is that the cells were MyoD is expressed are coloured. So the coloured cells are the one that will participate in the development of the skeletal muscles. The image was captured with my iPhone trough the microscope lens. In-situ hybridisation allows an experimenter to localize the expression of a particular gene in the tissue/embryo of interest. The strength of this technique is that it can give resolution down to a cellular level without the need for specialised equipment and reagents. In this experiment we were looking for the MyoD mRNA, to see where and when the gene was expressed. We made this experiment to study muscle development and growth. Our attention was focused on hypertrophic animals and their use in zootechnics, so we were studying muscles and the genes related to their growth.
