Summary
[edit]DescriptionImpact breccia (Early Permian, ~280 Ma; Terny Impact Crater, Ukraine) 1.jpg |
English: Impact breccia from the Permian of Ukraine. (cut surface)
Impact breccias are poorly-sorted rocks having angular coarse grains. They form duing impact events - asteroids from space collide with Earth and pulverize target rocks. The ejecta is propelled high into the air and falls back down to the surface. This Ukraine example formed during an impact about 280 million years ago, during the Early Permian.
