Title
imitation Samian ware bowl
Description
English: Two rim pieces (which fit together) from an imitation Samian ware bowl. It is an imitation of a Dragendorff Form 38.

The smaller peice weighs 13.8 and is 42.23mm long. The larger piece weighs 38.7g and is 73.66mm long.

Both pieces appear to be burnt as they are blackened on the outside surface. The inside surface is not the original surface as some has broken away leaving only a thin section. The fabric which is visible is an orange colour but this could be due to the burning also.

Both pieces have a prominent hooked flang which would be around half way down the wall of the bowl. This is a local imitation of the Samian ware bowl Dragendorff Form 38 which would have been imported from Gaul.
