From the landing at Pittsburgh, on the Monongahela side, keepnear the right shore, and, at high water, puli directly out intothe Alleghany current, which sets strong over to the left shore.At low water, when nearly up with the point, keep over to theleft, towards OHaras glass-works, which will carry you clear ofthe bar at the point, and of the Monongahela bar on the left. Brunots Island. Channel to the right, and near the right shore, round the head barof the island, and then incline towards the island, and pass nearits foot, to avoid a bar on the right below. Nevilles, or Long Island Channel to the right. About three-fourths of a mile above Nev-illes island, keep to the right, to avoid the bar at its head, andpass pretty close to Baldwins mill dam; and, when past it, closein to the right shore below, then turn short across for the island,and keep near the island shore until you approach a small sandyisland, when you m.ust keepwesternpilotcont1847cumi
