Text Appearing Before Image: ook me some time to find hishouse. For nearly two hours my tired mules and donkeysthreaded their way through dusty, crooked lanes, across camel-filled squares, and in and out of closing bazaars, until wereached the Kalantars door just as the sun was going down.The dwelling was unpretentious on the outside, as all Persianhouses are. Several servants answered the summons of myman, who announced the arrival of a farangi, and I was thenushered into a large, oblong room carpeted with fine Persianrugs. The walls of the apartment were almost without deco-ration, and the furnishing was confined chiefly to divans andcushions, as in many Oriental dwellings; but on one side therewere arranged in Occidental manner a table and some chairs,made and upholstered after European models.
