Text Appearing Before Image: ain Kapta in the south-east, falls into the Poru-tso.To the west rises a chain of mighty snowy peaks. On themorning of June 12, after 8.8 degrees of frost, the streamwas covered with a third of an inch of ice, and I missedthe pleasant rippling sound of the evening. But the icebroke up in the sunshine and rattled down in large fiakes. We were conducted still to the south-west; on the nextday when we encamped on the lake shore the directionwas nearer west. From camp 428 (17,067 feet) we had afine view over the small lake Poru-tso, also called Yeke-tsobecause it is situated in the district Bongba-yeke, thewesternmost in the large province of Bongba, which isunder the control of Karma Puntso. To the west of itfollows Rigi-hloma or Rigi-changmo, which is subject toNgari-karpun, as the Garpun of Gartok is called here.Puru-tso is drying up ; the highest shore-line lies 354 feetabove the present level of the lake. The water is not fitfor drinking, but, curiously enough, it still contains fish.
