Text Appearing Before Image: nge to rest a thousand years under a veil ofclouds and glittering snowfields. It is strange that thiswide country, so near to the Indian frontier, should haveremained absolutely unknown till our late times. I amproud and delighted to know that I am the first white manto penetrate to this wilderness. Panchor advised us to stay a day in the valley, for weshould not find pasture as good as here for a long time. Panchor insisted strongly on thesehalts in order that the Bombo may not be tired ; but Isuspect it was chiefly because he wanted a puff from hisChinese o^ansa. Though it was a great struggle for our horses, wecame at last to the Sangmo-bertik-la, at the gi
