While residing temporar-ily in Cedar View, Duchesne Co., Utah,he presided over the ward Y. M. M. I.A. and at Alunite, a mining camp inPiute County, Utah, he acted as anassistant to the branch president andassistant Sunday school superintend-ent. At Leeds, Washington Co., Utah,he was an officer in the Ward Y. M. BIOGRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA 43 M. I. A. After returning to Josephin 1920, he was ordained a High PriestJan. 30, 1921, by Apostle Richard R.Lyman, after which he served as amember of the High Council in theSouth Sevier Stake until May 3, 1925,when he was chosen and sustained asBishop of the Joseph Ward, beingordained to that position by ApostleMelvin J. Ballard. Brother Parker isa farmer and stock-man by avocation. PAYNE, Harry Lorenzo, ord pres-ident of the St. Joseph Stake, Arizona,was born Jan. 18, 1879, at Glenwood,Sevier Co., Utah, the son of HarryM. Pavne and Helen Amelia Buchanan.

Text Appearing After Image: He was baptized June 9, 1884, byDaniel Cloward, ordained a Deaconby William Stevens in December,1889, and later ordained a Priest byPhilip H. Hurst; ordained an Elderby Frederick G. Williams, June 30,1897, a Seventy by Apostle GeorgeTeasdale, July 21, 1897, and a HighPriest by Anthony W. Ivins, May 25,1902. From his early youth he hasbeen an active Church worker. As aboy he served in the presidency of aDeacons quorum and later becameactive in a Priests quorum. At theage of 18, just prior to leaving homefor a mission to the Southern States, in July, 1897, he was ordained anPJlder, then, while visiting in SaltLake City, he was ordained a Sev-enty and set apart to labor as amissionary. He labored in the South-ern States as a missionary for twoyears (1897-1899), in the states ofTennessee, Georgia and North Caro-lina. After his return from this mis-sion, he served in the stake super-intendency of Sunday schools. From1916 to 1919 he served as a HighCouncilor in the St. Joseph Stake ofZion a
