Bei 4 einem $ entnommenen Embryonen mit einer Scheitel- Steißlänge von 38 mm ist ebenfalls keine Spur von Falten vorhanden. Microcavia australis Genau wie bei Cavia ist der Gaumen frei von Falten, wie ein mir vor- liegendes Exemplar zeigt. Dolichotis patagonum Der Gaumen eines subadulten Maras zeigt genau wie beim Meerschwein- chen einen völlig faltenfreien intermolaren Gaumenbereich. Kurz vor den Molaren sind 1 Paar schwache und davor ein Paar längere, etwas spitz zulaufende zapfenartige Erhebungen zu erkennen, die man vielleicht als stark umgewandelte Falten ansprechen könnte.
