HINTZE, Ferdinand F., president ofthe Turkish Mission from 1887 to 1889and from 1899 to 1900, was born May Text Appearing After Image: 13, 1854, at Roskilde, Denmark, a sonof Anders Hintze and Karen SophieNikolaisen. He was baptized May 13,1862, emigrated to Utah in 1864, andfilled missions to the NorthwesternStates in 1877-1878 and 1879-1880. Hefilled a mission to Scandinavia in 1885-1887, and one to Turkey in 1897-1900.On the latter mission he published29,000 tracts in the Turkish and Ar-menian languages. In 1906 he pub- BIOGRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA 391 lished the Book of Mormon in Turkish.Elder Hintze died March 9, 1928. MAYCOCK, Philip Starkey, presi-dent of the Turkish Mission from 1897to 1899, was born May 23, 1872, inSalt Lake City, Utah, a son of ThomasMaycock and Louisa Starkey. He wasbaptized when eight years old, attend-ed the Latter-day Saints College,taught school four yeais, was ordaineda Seventy July 15, 1896, by Heber J.Grant, and filled a mission to Germanyin 1896-1897. He died March 21, 1907,in Salt Lake City. MUSSER, Don C.
