Text Appearing Before Image: round the right flank of the mountain, not farfrom the base of the cliff where the Gotarzes panel is cut.Pointing out the direction, they led me around the spur andthen up a slight incline to a place where stood a huge boulderof stone, some twenty feet in circumference and ten in height,carved on three sides with life-size figures in low relief. As Icould not take a photograph, because it was too late in theafternoon, I made careful notes of the sculptures and shalldescribe them with more detail than might otherwise benecessary. The middle figure, facing the natural approach up themound, is a bearded personage, with mustache and hairdistinctly marked, and wearing upon the head a roundish cap. 1 For the history of Gotarzes, and linson, Sixth Oriental Monarchy, pp. for bibliographical references concern- 249-201.
