JONES, Daniel W., president of theMexican Mission from 1876 to 1877,was born Aug. 6, 1830, in Boonslick,Howard Co., Missouri, the son ofWylie Jones and Margaret S. Cloyd.He joined the army which marchedfrom Santa Fe, N. M., to California, in1849, was accidentally wounded by ashot near Provo, Utah; heard theGospel and was baptized in 1851. Heassisted Elder Trejo in the transla-tion of the Book of Mormon into theSpanish language in 1874 and 1875;preached the Gospel among the La-manites, wrote the book, FortyYears Among the Indians, and diedin Mesa City, Arizona, April 29, 1915.
