It may not be gen-erally known that locomotives made inGermany had recently begun to find favoron British railways. It is hardly to beimagined that the material or workman- used in Great Britain. As neutrals werefrain from venturing any opinion onthe matter, but in the meantime it mayinterest our readers to learn something ofthe most recent consignment of locomo-tives made by a German firm and now inregular service in Great Britain. The accompanying illustration showsthe type of ten express locomotives builtby Messrs. A. Borsig, of Gegel, Berlin,for the South Eastern & Chatham Rail- regularity that is not surpassed on anyrailway in Great Britain, and some ofthem are now working the main line ex-press trains in connection with such ofthe European Continental service as isstill running. Some of the general dimensions of thistype of locomotive are as follows: Gauge, 4 ft. 8l/z ins. Cylinders, 20J4 ins. diameter by 26 ins.stroke.

Possibly the Kaiserthinks that after Europe is completelyGermanized all the locomotives will bemade in Germany. On the other hand,many enterprising British manufacturersare convinced that they have seen thelast of the articles made in Germany and way of England. The locomotives areequipped with superheater appliances, andalthough the engine and superheater ap-paratus are of German manufacture thecomplete boiler mountings as well as allother special equipment were supplied byBritish manufacturers to the specificationsof Mr. R. E. L. Mansell, locomotivesuperintendent of
